About the Alzheimer's Resource Service
The Alzheimer's Resource Service (ARS) is a service of IU Health Bloomington Community Health. We seek to provide support, resources and assistance to those with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias and their families. We also work with professional staff who support those with a diagnosis. All services are offered to the community at NO CHARGE, thanks to the Bloomington Hospital Foundation and IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
Our office is located at 333 E. Miller Dr. in Bloomington, IN. Typically, the educators at ARS work Monday through Friday, although they do not keep regular office hours. All appointments must be scheduled in advance to ensure that the educators will be in.
Meet the Staff
Dayna Thompson, M.S., Ed.S., LMHC is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who has been with IU Health since 2006. She has been trained in Positive Approach to Care (PAC) since 2016. She currently heads up the Alzheimer's Resource Service and serves as Alzheimer's Educator. Dayna is responsible for client consultation and counseling, community and professional education, outreach, professional collaboration and consultation and service coordination and development.
Shelly Gilbert, EMT, CDP
Shelly has been working with families of persons living with dementia for more than seven years. As she watched both of her grandmothers battle this disease, it has become her passion to advocate for others who are battling the same. She has worked in Lawrence County as an EMT, firefighter and care manager. She is a Certified Dementia Practitioner and currently works as the Network Director at the Rural Dementia Network (Lawrence and Orange County Office) of the ADRS.
Amanda Mosier, CDP, CDCM, SSD is a Certified Dementia Practitioner and Care Manager with a background in social work, program planning and medical administration. She is also a certified Positive Approach to Care Coach and trainer. She has over 18 years of experience in dementia care and is the Community Health Coordinator at the IU Health, Alzheimer’s Resource Service where she organizes educational and outreach events across South Central Indiana. She facilitates support groups and individual consultations with families and Care Partners to educate, support and navigate the challenges of dementia. She coordinates outreach programs to create Dementia Friendly Communities in Indiana and is the Liaison for Dementia Friendly Indiana through the organization Dementia Friendly America.
Diana Matthews, CDP
During the past 15 years Diana has worked in the senior living and long-term care industries in admissions and marketing. Her role was to help people navigate the often confusing and overwhelming decisions associated with moving into a care facility. During this time, she developed a passion for ensuring that seniors get the care they need and deserve, in the manner that they want it provided. When her dad developed dementia in early 2018, she saw that resources were lacking and education was desperately needed to respond to those in crisis and those caring for them. As a Certified Dementia Practitioner who is serving as the Program Director at the RDN through the ADRS, she hopes to help others in the same situation.
